Abstract

Recently, the International Diabetes Federation (IDF) projected that the global prevalence of diabetes among adults will rise from 387 million in 2014 to 592 million by the year 2035, which is about 10.1% of world’s adult population. The combined prevalence of diagnosed and undiagnosed diabetes in the Egyptian population ≥20 years of age was estimated to be 9.3%. Worldwide, the prevalence of type 2 diabetes is estimated at 6.4 percent in adults, varying from 3.8 to 10.2 percent by region; rates of undetected diabetes may be as high as 50 percent in some areas.
Basic principles of nutritional management, however, are often poorly understood by both clinicians and their patients but in recent years evidence-based outcomes research that documents the clinical effectiveness of MNT in diabetes has been reported
This study aimed at promoting to assess the outcome of MNT among patients with DM in term of glycemic control.
Study Design:
The design of current study was a quasi-experimental intervention (pre- posttest design). The study was conducted at family medicine practice clinic in Suez Canal University Hospital, Ismailia Governorate.40 patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus who did not achieve their optimal glycemic control were allocated.
Inclusion Criteria:
• All adults more than 20 years
• Patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus
• Uncontrolled patients with type 2 diabetes (HbA1c˃7%)
