Abstract

Systemic lupus erythematosus is a chronic systemic autoimmune inflammatory disease, affecting multiple organ systems including the renal system. Lupus nephritis is clinically apparent in approximately 50 percent of SLE patients and is a significant cause of morbidity and mortality. Thus, periodic screening for the presence of lupus nephritis with urine analysis, quantitation of proteinuria is an important component of management of SLE patients. The aim of this study was to evaluate the role of Syndecan-1 in the patients of SLE with renal involvement and its correlation with disease activity and severity. This study was conducted on 30 SLE patients with renal involvement, who fulfilled the 2019 EULAR/ACR SLE Classification Criteria. And 20 apparently healthy age & sex matched volunteers were studied as a control group.
