Abstract

from the end of the surgery, there was statistically significant difference between control and verapamil groups as following: 87.50±10.61, 87.20±7.10 and 86.70±7.60, respectively in control group comparing to 75.00±11.42, 78.00±9.67 and 79.10±7.79, respectively, in verapamil group, with p-value (P=0.021, P=0.026 and P=0.040). While, there rest had insignificant difference, with p-value (p>0.05). As regards to MAP (mmHg) after 4 hs, 6 hs and 12 hs respectively from the end of the surgery, there was statistically significant difference between control and verapamil groups as following: 90.80±8.97, 91.50±7.26 and 90.30±6.17, respectively in control group comparing to 82.90±6.30, 81.70±6.09 and 83.70±6.41, respectively in verapamil group, with p-value (P=0.035, P=0.004 and P=0.031). While, there rest had insignificant difference, with p-value (p>0.05). There was no statistically significant difference between both groups in the VAS score in the first four hours and after 24 hours of the study, but at the 6th, 12th and 18th hours there was statistically significant difference between both groups as follows: 4(3-5), 5(4-5) and 5(4-5) respectively in control group compared to 3(2-3), 4(3-4) and 4(3-4) respectively in verapamil group, with p-value (0.020, 0.013 and 0.008), respectively. The time of analgesia in hours was statistically significantly shorter in control group 5.80±2.39 compared to 13.20±6.20 in verapamil group with p-value (p=0.002). Statistically significant higher mean value of total morphine (mg) in control group was 18.50±4.12 compared to verapamil group was 11.50±3.37, with p-value (p<0.001).
Conclusion: The study showed that the addition of verapamil to bupivacaine in QLB improved the quality of the block which was proved by longer time to rescue analgesia, lower VAS scores and less morphine (mg) consumption in verapamil group compared to control group.
