Abstract

The ammonia industry is considered one of the most important inorganic chemical industries, as ammonia enters many industries, the most important of which is the fertilizer industry, as nearly 80% of the ammonia produced is used in agricultural fertilizers to help maintain food production for billions of people around the world. Among the most important of these fertilizers is urea fertilizer, ammonium nitrate fertilizer, and ammonium sulfate. Ammonia is also used in refrigeration and air conditioning; due to the large amount of heat it absorbs when it is converted from liquid to gas (372 calories). But at the present time it has been replaced by freon gas because of the toxicity of ammonia and its impact on health. It is also used as fuel for large machinery in factories, provided that the machinery does not contain copper. Ammonia causes copper to rust when mixed with oxygen. Ammonia is used in the synthesis of nitric acid, which is used in the production of explosives and many other chemical compounds and other common uses of ammonia.
El-Nasr company for fertilizers is a huge company for producing and marketing nitrogenous fertilizers and intermediate chemicals, established in 1951 to produce nitrogenous fertilizers and ammonia production. Much data was acquired in this company especially in ammonia production plant for better understanding process and development problems and this data was integrated and interpreted to reach a complete process evaluation, environmental emission monitoring and managing energy of this plant.
Carbon dioxide one of the undesirable components in ammonia production process causing poisoning to the ammonia converter catalyst result in low ammonia production so the main target of ammonia production is minimizing the acid gas in the synthesis gas (H2&N2) of NH3 production.
This thesis explains and illustrates the obtained results from simulation of carbon dioxide removal process in all Nasr fertilizers company by using two amine solvent activators. These aqueous solvents have been focusing research over the last decade because of the desire to obtain more efficient and economical chemical absorption solvents to eliminate carbon dioxide from synthesis gas of ammonia production.
Though, the primary objective of this process is to select the most efficient and appropriate amine solvent activator between (DEA&TEA) with the least amount of

energy consumed while maintaining a high CO2 capture rate from the synthesis gas of El-Nasr company’s ammonia production plant for fertilizers. As such, this research will examine the effect of solvent rate on CO2 collection efficiency.
To simulate an absorption plant and to evaluate the effect of many factors on process efficiency, aspen hysys was used. Increased amine loading increases the effectiveness of the absorption process, but only up to a point. Similarly, raising the amine circulation rate increases the absorption process efficiency as long as it remains below the equilibrium rate, but any change in the amine rates has a direct effect on the regeneration energy.
