Abstract To compare treatment of TMDs using hard occlusal stent constructed by CAD/CAM technology, low level laser therapy and a combination of hard occlusal stent and low level laser therapy clinically and electromyographically. Materials and Methods: Twenty-one adult patients suffering from chronic myofascial pain for a minimum duration of three months. The patients were divided randomly into three equal groups according to the type of treatment. group A: Patients have received hard occlusal stent constructed by CAD/CAM technology. group B: Patients have received low-level laser therapy. group C: Patients have received a combination of hard occlusal stent constructed by CAD/CAM technology and low level laser therapy. Bilateral high-resolution magnetic resonance images (MRI) radiographs were then performed for each subject to evaluate the TMJs for the presence or absence of disc displacement and ensure freedom of any degenerative joint pathology. Clinical evaluations were done using Visual Analogue Scale (VAS), Anamnestic Dysfunction Index and Electromyographic evaluation before therapy, at the fifth week, the third and sixth months after onset of the study period. At the end of the study the data were collected, tabulated and statistically analyzed |
