Abstract A study was done in trial to assess the diagnostic significance of the conventional non contrast multiple MRI parameters in the assessment of the equivocal lung lesions trying to differentiate the benign from the malignant. We performed it on 25 patients who asked clinical assessment for chest complaints, CT was done upon clinical request, they were diagnosed with 43 equivocal lesions where the CT assessment could not reach the final diagnosis. This includes six equivocal consolidations, ten peripheral masses, ten central masses, seven lung nodules, nine equivocal scars and one equivocal cyst. MRI was done with different parameters including T1WI,In/out phase T2WI, DWI in b500,1000 and ADC. We performed qualitative assessment of the lung lesions including full evaluation of the lesions signal intensity and diffusion restriction, while the quantitative parameters were including calculating the lesions signal intensity to cord ratio in DWI with b500 mm/S2 and assessing the minimum ADC value of the lung lesions. All the mentioned data were finally correlated with the final diagnosis that obtained either by biopsy or by the clinical and laboratory work up. Assessing the signal intensity of the lesions in T2WI carried 71.43% sensitivity and 53.33% specificity in differentiating benign from malignant lesions, while calculating the lesions signal intensity to cord ratio carried 96.43% sensitivity and 80% specificity in lung lesions differentiation. |
