Abstract
Myofacial Pain Dysfunction Syndrome (MPDS) is a pain disorder which causes great disability to a large percentage of our population. This study was designed to evaluate the effectiveness of oxygen{u2010}ozone gas injections intramuscularly and compare it to dry needling technique. Ten female patients with a total of 30 active trigger points were randomly allocated to either a control group where they received 6 dry needling sessions or a study group where they received 6 oxygen ozone gas injections. Regular examination of visual analogue scale (VAS) and maximum comfortable opening (MCO) was done in each visit together with quantitative electromyogram pre and postoperatively. When comparing the EMG and MCO values of the two groups no statistical significance was found. However when comparing the VAS of the two groups at the 2 months and 4 months postoperative visits, the study group showed decreased pain to a greater degree than the control group, which proved to be statistically significant
