Abstract

Establishing presence or absence of lymph node metastasis is critical in the management of primary breast cancer. A reliable tool to predict the probability of axillary lymph node metastasis would lead to improved efficiencies of care and reduce morbidity of axillary surgery, especially if one step nucleic acid amplification (OSNA) is to be used for intra - operative lymph node analysis. Prospective data collection from 323 patients diagnosed with primary invasive breast cancer over a twelve month period, including symptomatic and screening patients. Data collected was analyzed by IBM SPSS software, multivariate statistical analysis with logistic regression was used to identify predictive criteria and create a predictive tool or equation. Patient{u2019}s variables were applied in the predictive tool created by the Memorial Sloan Kettering cancer institute and results were compared to other predictive tools from other centers
