Abstract
The purpose of the study is to detect patients with azygos system abnormalities whether normal variants, congenital or acquired abnormalities using the different capabilities of MSCT allowing multiplanar reformatting and three dimensional reconstruction. Prior knowledge of possible anatomic variants may help cardiothoracic surgeons to reduce the risk of intraoperative injury of the azygos venous system. Pre - operative MSCT scan of the chest plays an important role to avoid such consequences. It has also been suggested that enlarged azygos system may lead to misinterpretation of CT by mimicking aneurysms or tumors
