Abstract

DNA and botanical profiling of Thymus capitatus L. were conducted; phytochemical screening, extraction and examination of the extractives were also done. The fresh aerial parts of plant were subjected to hydrodistillation and microwave assisted hydrodistillation, the oils obtained were subjected to GC/MS. Also headspace-gas chromatography technique for fast quantitative determination of volatile constituents of plant had been developed. In three techniques, carvacrol was the major compound but in different percentages. Investigation of lipoidal content included GLC analysis of the lipoidal matter, and identification of major constituents. N-docadecane was the major hydrocarbon, cholesterol was the major sterol while palmitic acid was the major saturated fatty acid and linoleic acid was the major unsaturated fatty acid. Isolation and identification of major compounds in chloroform fraction of T.capitatus L.. Compound isolated from this fraction, was identified as Oleanoic acid (cpd1). Isolation of phenolic constituents in ethyl acetate were identified as Rosmarinic acid (cpd2), and Quercetin (cpd3). from n-butanol fractions were identified as Lutoelin (cpd4), and Apegnin (cpd5).Total flavanoid and phenolic contents of methanolic extracts obtained by traditional way (maceration)and by innovated techniques (microwave and ultrasonic) were quantitatively determined using colorimetric assay. The yield of 80% methanol extract and concentration of phenolics from maceration are more than the yields from microwave and ultrasonic
