Abstract Diabetic nephropathy is a major complication of both types of diabetes, is responsible for 15 - 40% of end - stage renal diseases (ESRD) Prolonged hyperglycemia leads to chronic complications of diabetes including nephropathy. Micro - albuminuria (30 - 300mg / day) is the predictor of stage 2 of diabetic nephropathy. Epidemiologic and experimental data have shown that microalbuminuria is also associated with an increased risk of cardiovascular (CV) mortality, cerebrovascular disease (CVD) and, possibly, peripheral arterial disease. The good control of diabetes may delay diabetic nephropathy and ESRD and the regular follow - up of the patients represent the key for successful treatment |
