Abstract Background: This study was designed to compare fentanyl with dexmedetomidine, regarding their efficiency in inducing deliberate hypotension, intra operative hemodynamics and providing a better surgical field exposure during cochlear implantation in pediatric population. It also compared the influence of their use on postoperative pain , recovery time, discharge time and post operative complication . Conclusion: use of dexmedetomidine infusion in cochlear implantation in pediatrics patients allowed lower doses of anesthetics to be used, rapid recovery from anesthesia, reduced need for pain medication in the PACU, thereby reducing the length of stay and had better quality scale of surgical field compared to fentanyl infusion |
