Abstract OBJECTIVES: The aim of this study was to assess the levels of Toll like receptors 2 and 4 (TLR2 and TLR4) in the gingival crevicular fluid (GCF) and blood from controlled type 2 diabetes mellitus (DM) patients with chronic periodontitis and subjects with chronic periodontitis alone. Conclusion: Both Hyperglycemia and chronic periodontitis influence the expression of TLR-2 and TLR-4 in GCF and serum and this could contribute to a stronger inflammatory response, leading to periodontal disease progression. The expression of TLR-2 and TLR-4 is positively correlated with the severity of periodontal disease |
