Abstract

Background & Aim: The chief manifestations of scabies are probably mediated through inflammatory and hypersensitivity-like reactions. Then, followed by pruritic lesions of different signs depending on immune responses which is so far not well understood and remain poorly characterized. The aim of this study is to investigate the role of the anti- and pro- inflammatory cytokines in relation to humoral immunity (specific IgG and total IgE) in patients suffering from different clinical forms of scabies. Results & Conclusion: A significant positive correlation was observed between the total IgE and both specific IgG and IL-6. A positive correlation was reported as well between both total IgE and IgG in relation to the severity of clinical manifestations. On the contrary, a negative correlation was recorded between IL-6 & TNF-Ü which make us suggested anti-inflammatory effect of IL-6 rather than pro-inflammatory role. Moreover, a negative correlation was noticed between the anti-inflammatory cytokine IL-10 and severity of manifestations, in addition to specific IgG , total IgE and INF-Þ as well. Therefore, the current study theorized a regulatory role for Interleukin-10 on inflammatory responses in scabietic patients. For this reason, its therapeutic potential is better to be furtherly analyzed
