Abstract

The aim of the presented study was to compare the secondary splinting of impression copings prior to impression pouring as a substitution to the primary splinted technique, with an effort to control all the other factors that possibly affect the passive fit of the screw retained prostheses. Ten completely upper and lower edentulous patients were selected. Each patient received eight implants, four in the maxilla and four in the mandibular arch. Over those installed dental implants. Screw retained full arch prostheses were constructed. For each patient two different impression techniques were performed: Technique I was an open tray impression technique with the impression copings primarily splinted intraorally with prefabricated acrylic rods joined together just before the impression making. Technique II was performed with non-splinted open tray impression technique. The impression copings were splinted through joining the implants lab analogs with a low shrinkage acrylic resin material before pouring of the impression
