Abstract Epilepsy is a common neurological disorder that affects 1% of the world‟s population of all ages, races, social classes, and geographical locations. By the neurobiologic, cognitive, psychologic, and social consequences of the epilepsy, it is considered to be a serious neurologic disorder that often requires lifelong treatment.(36) Antiepileptic drug treatment is the mainstay of the management of epilepsies. Choosing a suitable drug is the key to successful medical management of epilepsy in children. The choice of antiepileptic drug depends on many factors, of which the most important is accurate seizure classification. The other factors used to choose a suitable antiepileptic drug include the side effect profile of the drug, the available age, appropriate preparations of the drug and the economic cost.(152) |
