Abstract

- Gallstones or cholelithiasis constitute a significant health problem. - Cholecystectomy is one of the most common operations performed by general surgeons for symptomatic & complicated gallstones. - Laparoscopic cholecystectomy is the standard treatment of choice. - Three-port laparoscopic cholecystectomy nowadays is considered one of the new promising techniques for laparoscopic cholecystectomy, introducing a safe and feasible replacement for Conventional laparoscopic cholecystectomy. - Many studies showed variant accepted results from this surgery, in our study this technique showed better outcomes than the conventional surgery in patient safety, operative complications, wound cosmesis, hospital stay & early return to work. - Aim of this work to compare the outcome of three port vs. four port laparoscopic cholecystectomy and detect safety of three port laparoscopic cholecystectomy as a routine procedure. - Our study was on 40 patients, who were presented with gall bladder stones. They were admitted to the general surgery department, Tanta University hospitals in the period from October 2020 to January 2022, divided into 2 groups each of 20 patients randomly selected, the 1st group underwent TPLC & the 2nd underwent CLC. - Our study showed differences in favor of the 1st TPLC group, with no major intraoperative complications, less postoperative pain, shorter hospital stay and better cosmetic satisfaction, while operative time was longer in the 1st cases.
