Abstract

There has been growing public concern regarding the ethical conduct of healthcare professionals. This is often reflected as complaints about poor ethical conduct and an increasing use of litigation against healthcare practitioners.
Aim of the Current Work: To evaluate the knowledge, attitudes and practice of healthcare professionals as regards healthcare ethics in Misr University for Science and Technology (MUST) hospital, to determine how the healthcare professionals seek for medical ethical consultations and to determine the time needed to resolve them.
Subjects and Methods: This is a cross sectional study that was conducted in Misr University for Science and Technology (MUST) hospital in the period from January 2018 to January 2019. The participants in the current study were selected randomly and the sample involved 100 physicians of different grades, 74 nurses an 26 technicians. The physicians were divided equally into 2 groups consultant physicians (professor, assistant professor and lecturer) and junior physicians (lecturer, resident doctors and house officers.
Results: In the present study, there was a great variation between the healthcare providers as regards: age, sex, duration of experience, scientific degree, medical training outside Egypt and attendance ethical sessions. This variation extended to the attitude regards the medical ethics, frequency of ethical/legal problems and consultation in each of them.
