Abstract

Research over the years has focused on both developing new technologies and optimizing those that already exist to maximize the energy potential that comes from our use of natural resources. Compared to other renewable energy sources like wind, solar, biomass, and geothermal, waves have the highest energy density. This study illustrates the effects of an oscillating water column energy converter’s air chamber’s geometry and design on the airflow response. The main objective of this study is to optimize the air velocity entering the turbine to obtain the maximum power possible in a progressive wave with a constant period and wavelength by using various air chamber shapes, including rectangular, cylindrical, and conical air chambers. According to the findings, the air velocity flow significantly increased from 7.14 m/s in the rectangular air chamber to 10.4 m/s in the cylindrical air chamber and reached 14.2 m/s in the conical air chamber.
