Abstract

According to the used concrete dimensions and the studied parameters, theconclusions drawn from this research are: • Regardless of the tested parameters, the adopted strengthening system has remarkably enhanced the shear carrying capacity of all strengthened RC beams with opening without any sign of debonding between UHP-SHCC segments and the substrate concrete. The gain in the ultimate load ranged approximately from 29 % to 77.9 % relative to the un-strengthened specimens (BC-C and BC-S). • Utilization of steel reinforcements inside the UHP-SHCC segments enhanced the ultimate load. Compared to strengthened specimen using plain UHP-SHCC segments (BP1-C-20-R0 and BP1-S-20-R0), the ultimate load for specimens BP1-C-20-R1 and BP1-S-20-R1 was increased by about 11.4%..Increasing the thickness of the UHP-SHCC segments improved the ultimate shear capacity due to an advancement in the contribution of UHP-SHCC material to the shear esistance of the tested beams. the recorded capacities of BP1-C-20-R1 (195 kN), BP1-C-30-R1 (233kN), and BP1-C-40-R1% (233 kN) were about 48.9 %, 68.7 %, and 77.9 % higher than that of BC-C (131kN), respectively. • Using diamond UHP-SHCC shape enhanced the ultimate load. Compared to specimen BP1-C-20-R1, the ultimate load for specimens BP3-C-20-R1 was increased by about 7.7 %.
