Abstract
Evidence points to the so-called ”cytokine storm,” which can be defined as an
uncontrolled overproduction of soluble mediators of inflammation that leads to an
abnormal systemic inflammatory response, is a crucial factor in the development of
severe forms of the disease and ARDS.
There are few treatment options for severe COVID-19. A therapeutic strategy that
relies on immunomodulatory medication to reduce the cytokine storm could provide
insight into COVID-19 treatment. The use of an immunomodulatory drug to attenuate
the cytokine storm may allow additional time for patients with COVID-19 to receive
supportive care.
Using a variety of therapeutic options, several procedures proposed different
techniques to control the cytokine release storm.
