Abstract

Voting process plays a vital role in the democratic scheme. On the other hand, Electronic voting has received an increasing attention especially in the last decade due to the impact of the technology and computer revolution. The Electronic voting minimizes human errors, leads and guides voters and election authority members during the election and casting processes, and speeds up the whole procedure. Two important yet conflicting requirements of the electronic voting systems are verification and coercion- resistance. There are two types of verification; individual verification and general verification. Individual verification allows the voter to ensure that he/she has cast to his/her chosen candidate and his/her vote has been counted correctly. General verification means that the final result of the election is the summation of votes without any change. Coercion resistance means that the voter has the right to choose his/her candidate without any restraint from any candidate or political party and that he/she does not have the capability to hold any evidence that he/she casted for a specific candidate. To achieve both verification and coercion-resistance, the voting system must provide carefully crafted information to convince the voter that his/her vote was counted correctly and he/she cannot prove his/her choice to a third party in the same time.
