Abstract

Snoring is a relatively common complaint that is more common in males. Many options are available, surgical and non surgical. Surgical treatment includes procedures done using cold instruments, radiofrequency, laser and cautery (UPPP, LAUP, RAUP, CAPSO and coblation palatoplasty). The basis of each method is to create scar tissue, to iniciate fibrosis ,and to stiffen the palate. This decreases the vibration of the palate and diminishes snoring. In this prospective study 50 patients admitted to Elkasr Elainy hospital for surgical treatment of snoring 25 patients underwent CAPSO while other 25 patients underwent coblation palatoplasty. All patients were only snorers with BMI less than 33, tonsil size grades 1 and 2. Assessment was done using VAS for improvement of snoring, Muller’s maneuver and eliciting palatal flutter on voluntary mimicking of the snoring sound. No significant difference between CAPSO and coblation regarding to the VAS score, however 36% of patients of coblation having score 5,6,7 versus 20% in CAPSO after 2 weeks post operative. 32% of patients of coblation having score 5,6 versus 28% in CAPSO after 2 months
