Abstract Acne scars represent an entirely highly challenging frustrating clinical problem. Various modalities and protocols were suggested. Fractional CO₂ laser has proved marked improvement in treatment of acne scars. On the other hand, non - ablative rejuvenation with 1064 nm Nd - YAG laser has been reported to provide significant improvement in treating acne scars. To compare the efficacy of fractional CO₂ laser and long pulsed (1064 nm) Nd : YAG laser in treatment of acne scars. Twenty five patients were recruited in this study. They underwent 3 sessions of fractional CO₂ laser on the left side and 3 sessions of long pulsed Nd : YAG laser on the right side of their face. All patients were followed up till 1 month after the last session. They were clinically assessed according to qualitative global scoring system. Two different observers evaluated the clinical improvement using digital photographs. Both fractional CO₂ laser and long pulsed (1064 nm) Nd - YAG laser are effective modalities in treating acne scars. On comparing left side (Co₂ laser) and right side (Nd - YAG laser) before and after treatment a statistically significant improvement in the degree of scar severity was observed on each individual side p value = 0.001 |
