The study was designed for screening of the potential activity of lactic acid bacteria against Helicobacter pylori and other enteropathogenic microorganisms. A total of 138 isolates of lactic acid bacteria were recovered from different dairy and non-dairy as (Freshly prepared rayeb milk, Home-made yoghurt, Cheese and mixed pickles) as well as infant stool by streaking plate technique on de Man, Rogosa, and Sharpe (MRS) agar. Screening for probiotic producing bacteria was tested under microaerophilic conditions against enteropathogenic organisms including Helicobacter pylori, Escherichia coli and Salmonella enteritidis. The data obtained showed that five isolates of lactic acid bacteria were able to produce bacteriocin or bacteriocin like compounds (indicated by their inhibition zone each on its specific medium). The most effective isolate (LAB27) showed marked large inhibition zone against H. pylori. These five isolates were found to belong to genus Lactobacilli as indicated by sequencing of 16S rRNA gene. Purification and characterization of bacteriocin or bacteriocin like compounds produced by Lactobacillus plantarum was done. SDS PAGE electrophoresis revealed that the purified bacteriocin was about 3.5 kDa
