Abstract

a. Aim: This study is aiming to evaluate the quality and quantity of bone gain
following Ridge augmentation in atrophic anterior maxillary ridges with
titanium reinforced polytetraflouroethelene membrane versus collagen
membrane with anorganic bovine bone derived mineral with and without
particulated autogenous bone chips.
b. Methodology: Twenty patients suffering from atrophic anterior maxillary
ridges less than 5mm using polytetrafluroethylene membrane versus native
collagen membrane both with a mix of (1:1) ratio of anorganic bovine bone
derived mineral and particulated autogenous bone chips
c. Results: collagen group has mean bone gain 4.3±0.39 if only successful cases
are included and 3.88±1.54 with all cases included. PTFE group has mean bone
gain 3.8±0.59 if only successful cases included and 1.92±2.51 with the all cases
included.
d. Conclusion: Complications associated with the non-resorbable PTFE
membrane barriers regarding the considerable incidence of soft tissue
dehiscence leading to large amount of graft loss is a matter of concern, so ptfe membranes should be covered with collagen membranes to avoid soft tissue
complications specially in esthetic zone.
