Abstract Myocardial infarction is a life threatening disease which is caused by disturbance in oxygen supply causing irreversible damage to the heart and disturbance in its functions with complications as heart failure. Inflammatory cascade is one of the important mechanisms for limiting cardiac damage, but when not adequately controlled it increases heart damage and can lead to heart failure so targeting it decreases the chance of complications. One of the main key components of inflammatory cascade is NLRP3 inflammasome. This study aimed to investigate the cardio-protective effect of Resveratrol and Verapamil in experimentally induced myocardial infarction of rats. Both drugs inhibited the inflammatory cascade by interfering NLRP3 inflammasome through inhibiting important inflammasome contents as TLR4, NF-κB, TXNIP, caspase-1 and IL-1β. |
