Abstract

Colorectal cancer (CRC) is a major health problem. Worldwide, more than one million individuals develop CRC each year
In Egypt, the estimated rate of CRC is 6.5 % of all malignant tumors. Egypt shows a high rate of early CRC in the world as 35% of 1,600 Egyptian CRC patients were under 40 with threefold increased risk of death within 5 years compared to those who have CRC over age of 50.
It is well known that CRC occurs due to the genetic and epigenetic alterations of intestinal epidermal cells. Thus, the determination of specific molecular markers denoting these changes may be a promising method for detecting early CRC.
Recently, DNA methylation-based biomarkers have become a hot spot in cancer research, one of them is methylated Septin9 (mSEPT9) which has a promising role for detecting CRC.
As well as set of nuclear matrix proteins associated with changes in the nuclear structure/architecture.
