Abstract Aim: To evaluate the effect of customized V pattern plate fixation versus a conventional superior-inferior mini plates fixation of mandibular angle fracture Methodology: This work was conducted between January 2019 to January 2020 . A total of 26 pateients with unilateral unfavorable mandibular angle fractures were selected from the outpatient clinic of Oral& Maxillofacial Surgery Department, Faculty of Dentistry-Cairo University and Ahmed Maher Teaching Hospital to participate in this study. Results: The results showed that there was a statistical difference between study group and control group regarding the post-operative occlusion and bone density along the fracture line. There was no statistical difference (p value > 0.05) in postoperative panoramic radiographs that were taken within the postoperative first week. There was a statistically significant of maximal mouth opening in both groups in postoperative first week and first month. However there was no statistically significant of maximal mouth opening in the postoperative third and sixth months in both groups in which maximal mouth opening became normal. Conclusions: A customized V pattern plate design as comparble to the conventional superior -inferior miniplates is an appropriate plate structure for unfavorable mandibular angle fracture,it ensures a proper alingment of the fracture with plate fixation and adequate postoperative radiographical results . It reduces the chance of post operatrive complications such as occlusal discrepancy, and inferior alveolar nerve injury. |
