Abstract Pediatric allergic rhinitis continues to impose health problem, especially if it was associated with asthma. This study aimed at estimating the prevalence of allergic rhinitis among a group of Egyptian asthmatic children living in Greater Cairo, and determining the impact of allergic rhinitis on the degree of asthma control. It was conducted at Cairo University Children’s Specialized Hospital and included 150 Egyptian asthmatic children and their parents. It was found that modified score for allergic rhinitis (SFAR) detected that 79.33% of asthmatic children had allergic rhinitis. Asthma control levels were significantly lower in asthmatic patients with associated allergic rhinitis compared to those without it. Modified SFAR was significantly higher in asthmatic patients with allergic rhinitis compared to those without it (P<0.001). There were significant direct correlations between nasal symptoms, signs, allergic conjunctivitis and modified SFAR. However, the correlation between asthma control and modified SFAR was not significant. |
