Abstract
Aim: To monitor postoperative pain in children aged from 3 to 5 years following full mouth dental rehabilitation under general anesthesia and if the postoperative discomfort was related to specific dental procedure. Study design: The face, leg, activity, cry consolability (FLACC) pain assessment tool measured discomfort immediately postoperatively, The Dental Discomfort Quessionnare-8 (DDQ-8) And Post-Operative Complaints Questionnaire measured discomfort in four periods of time in 1st, 3rd, 7th and 30th day after general anesthesia. Results: Sixty seven children were includedwith mean age (4.16 ± 0.72 years). The results of the FLACC score showed that the extraction had a statistically significant effect on immediate post-operative discomfort. The DDQ-8 scores showed that the dental discomfort increased at the third day, then significantly decreased to reach its lowest level at the 30th day, patients who received extraction recorded a significantly high DDQ-8 score at day 30th day. The general postoperative complaints showed a statistically significant decrease at the 3rd, 7th and 30th day. Significantly higher percentage of moderate and sever pain was related to crown. Conclusion: Extraction procedures showed effect on immediate discomfort after general anesthesia. The dental discomfort after GA showed gradual decrease by time. Inability to eat was the most common complaint reported. Most of the post-operative complaints usually disappeared after first week.
