Abstract

Acute abdomen is one of the most common problems in children and has a high priority in diagnosis for many reasons. Also, abdominal parenchyma is a major cause of children entering emergency departments and we find that most cases do not need surgical intervention.
There are several causes of emergency abdominal lesions in children: accidents or trauma are a major cause of injury in children and the abdomen. In particular, it is one of the most vulnerable places in such cases as car accidents and the fall from the upper roles and the lesion resulted from this trauma depends on the age of the injured child. One of the most affected organs are liver, spleen, kidney, pancreas, etc. Non-accidental causes that are multiple according to the age of the injured child are very simple cases such as intestinal influenza, constipation, and viral diseases. As well as dangerous cases such as tubercular hyperplasia, intestinal obstruction and gastrointestinal adhesions that need surgical intervention. This study aimed at demonstrating the role of MDCT in the diagnosis of emergency abdominal lesions in children after ultrasound studies for all cases.
The study included twenty-five child suffering from abdominal and pelvic emergency lesions. Ultrasound of the abdomen and pelvis and MDCT were done for each patient.
Suez Canal University Hospital, Ismailia General Hospital, and Al Husainiya Central Hospital were the setting of the study.
