Abstract Objective: This study was carried out to evaluate the bleeding on brushing among a group of Egyptian children after using Azadirachta Indica (Neem extract) mouthwash versus Chlorhexidine mouthwash. Participants and Method: Ninety six healthy children aged from 8-10 years old were selected from the clinic of Pediatric Dentistry and Dental Public Health Department, Faculty of Dentistry, Cairo University after obtaining a written consent from their guardians and clearance from the Ethical Committee. Results: The results showed that the effect of Neem extract mouthwash and 0.125% Chlorhexidine mouthwash on reducing gingival bleeding were statistically significant . Besides, the results also showed that there was no a statistical significant difference (pvalue=1) between the two mouthwashes regarding their effects on gingival bleeding on brushing. Conclusion: Despite the limitation of our study, this study concluded that: Neem extract mouthwash was effective in controlling gingival bleeding on brushing . Neem extract mouthwash had a higher efficacy than Chlorhexidine mouthwash in decreasing sulcus bleeding index scores in a group of Egyptian children . Neem extract mouthwash could be very good cost-effective alternative to Chlorhexidine mouthwash with less side-effects |
