Abstract

Colorectal cancer (CRC) is one of the health care challenges. The faecal samples of 17 CRC patients and one healthy control were prepared for metagenomic analysis. Metabolomics analysis was performed by LC MS/MS. Gut microbiota dysbiosis has been observed in CRC patients at all taxonomic levels. At the functional level, bacterial species participate in a variety of pathways, including de novo nucleotide synthesis and amino acid pathways, which were upregulated in patients. Some pro-carcinogenic bacteria such as B. fragilis, B.vulgatus and F.nucleatum were increased. Probiotic bacteria were increased in abundance after colectomy. Metabolomics profile of CRC patients showed differential metabolites compared to healthy control such as Taurocholic acid and 7- ketodeoxycholic acid. These microbial species and metabolites could be used as diagnostic biomarkers for CRC.
