Abstract

This study investigates humor production in utterances of the popular Egyptian humorous talk-show Live from the Duplex: Abla Fahita. It also aims to examine the different linguistic aspects of verbal humor in the light of Raskin’s Script-Based Semantic Theory of Humor (1985) and Attardo’s the General Theory of Verbal Humor (2001) utilizing the Knowledge Resources (KRs) of the theories. The analysis was done in accordance to the hierarchical order of the KRs. The study analyzes 15 excerpts from 12 different episodes aired between 2015 and 2020. The results of the study were presented qualitatively and quantitively. They show that on the most abstract level of Script Opposition (SO) Fahita relies on the normal/abnormal opposition (66.6%) followed by actual/non- actual opposition (33.3%) while possible/impossible shied away from use. For the KR of Logical Mechanism (LM) she employed various types: Exaggeration (46.6%), Juxtaposition (26.6%), Negation (13.3%), Obvious Error (13.3%), and Mediating Script (6.6%).
