Abstract

Background: Rheumatoid arthritis is reported to be a major health problem worldwide. Till now there is no cure for rheumatoid arthritis, treatment focuses on management of symptoms. Purposes:To compare between the effect of Siwa’s sandbath and sulphurous water bath on Rheumatoid arthritis patients. Materials and Methods: 45 patient with Rheumatoid arthritis from both sexes were involved; their ages ranged between35-50 years. Patients were divided into three equal groups. Group(A) :received Siwa’s sandbath and exercise. Group(B): received sulphurous water bath and exercise. Group(C): received physical therapy exercise only, for seven days. Inflammatory biomarkers (RF, ESR, and CRP), pain intensity, activities of daily living and flexion extension range of motion of dominant wrist were measured for all groups pre, post treatment and after one month follow up . Results:The results showed that after 7 days of treatment there were significant differences between groups in all measured variables in favor of group B, While at 1-month follow-up, the analysis showed significant differences between groups in all measured variables in favor of group A .No suggestions waterbath is more effective on short term treatment of Rheumatoid arthritis patients than Siwa’s sandbath. Siwa’s sandbath is more effective on long term treatment of Rheumatoid arthritis patient than sulphurous waterbath as regarded to inflammatory biomarkers, pain intensity, functional activities of daily living and wrist range of motion
