Abstract

95 Acute coronary syndrome (ACS) refers to a spectrum of clinical presentations ranging from those for ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI) to presentations found in non–ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction (NSTEMI) or in unstable angina. ACS is the leading cardiovascular (CV) cause of mortality, luminal thrombus secondary to coronary plaque rupture is considered as the underlying mechanism for ACS. Preprocedural thrombus was found to be present in 15% of moderate- and high-risk patients with ACS, and intracoronary thrombus burden was a strong predictor for adverse outcomes including stent thrombosis, myocardial infarction and mortality.
