Abstract

the aim of thise study to evaluate the Clinical and Radiodensitometric Evaluation of the Influence of Vitamin C and Selenium on Patients with chronic PeriodontitisSelenium isanaturally occurring mineral element that is distributed widely in nature in most rocks and soils. It is present in most food, with nuts (especially Braziliannuts),fish and seafood, and meat being very good sources. Vitamin C is a coenzyme that plays a role in the synthesis of collagen that influences the formation of connective tissue.Vitamin C deficiency is associated primarily with defective collagen synthesis, causing tissue dysfunction such as impaired wound healing and ruptured capillaries because of insufficient support of the capillary walls by the connective tissues (Pussinen et al2003). Periodontitis has long been defined as an infection-mediated destruction of the alveolar bone and soft tissue attachments to the tooth. Persistent bacterial colonization on the tooth surface leads to chronic inflammation in periodontal tissues. Periodontal inflammation results in gingival bleeding, pocket formation, destruction of alveolar bone and eventually loss of teeth (Page1999).
