Abstract
Oral route is the most preferred route for the administration of therapeutic agents due to ease of administration, low cost and high level of patient compliance. New oral dosage forms system known as oral dispersible system has been developed recently by pharmaceutical technologists. Orodispersible tablets and orodispersible films are solid dosage forms that are placed in mouth, allowed to disperse or dissolve in the saliva within seconds without the need of water and provide a quick onset of action and enhance the bioavailability. Many advantages can be achieved by the administration of drugs through thesis system. This includes the relatively rapid onset of action as compared to the oral route; Bioavailability of drugs is enhanced due to absorption from mouth, pharynx, and esophagus. Low dosage can be used as first pass metabolism is avoided which reduces the risk of side effects. It can also help in emergency conditions such as asthma, angina or pain, improved patient compliance due to elimination of pain associated with injections. Another advantage include accurate dosing as compared to liquid preparations and administration of drugs to patients who are unable or refuse to swallow tablets such as pediatrics, geriatrics and psychiatric patients, and finally, the absence of need for water or chewing is a convenient feature for patients who are traveling or don{u2019}t have immediate access to water
