Abstract

Objectives: The goal of management of supraglottic laryngeal carcinoma is to properly control the locoregional disease while avoiding local recurrence, unnecessary neck surgeries and preserve the best possible function for the remaining larynx, in order to achieve such goal, a precise knowledge of the patterns of locoregional spread of the supraglottic laryngeal carcinoma is essential. Aim of the study: This study aims to detect possible predictor factors in the supraglottic laryngeal carcinoma that are associated with an increased incidence of cervical metastasis including tumor size, grade, sites of origin and invasion of various subsites of the supraglottic larynx as well as identifying the patterns of origin and growth of supraglottic laryngeal carcinomas SLC and the patterns of lymph node spread from supraglottic carcinomas. Methods: 36 patients suffering from supraglottic laryngeal carcinoma were included in this study and underwent endoscopic and radiological assessment, followed by surgery to the primary tumor and the neck depending on the TNM stage of the tumor, then the obtained specimens are assessed by histopathological examination using whole organ serial sectioning, the variables assessed by of the endoscopic, radiological and pathological examination are analyzed statistically for possible correlation between the origin, local and regional spread of the malignancy as well as the tumor size, grade and patterns of cervical metastasis
