Abstract

Purpose. Elevated Intraocular pressure is a frequent complication in all patients presenting with uveitis. Secondary glaucoma is one of the most important ocular complications in uveitic patients that can impair the vision of patients. Therefore, early diagnosis of secondary glaucoma and its appropriate therapy are essential in the clinical management of uveitic patients, in addition to the control of intraocular inflammation. The aim of this study is to determine the prevalence of raised intraocular pressure (IOP) in patients with uveitis and to identify possible risk factors for raised IOP in these patients. Patients and methods. This a cross-sectional observational study that was carried out at the uveitis subspecialty clinic at the department of ophthalmology of kasralainy hospital, Cairo university from 1 April 2016 till 30 September, 2016.The study included 84 patients (147 uveitic eyes) who presented to the uveitis clinic during this period. Patients attended to the outpatient clinic underwent a full ophthalmological examination. Results: During the 6-month period, 84 patients attended the uveitic outpatient clinic. The mean age was 30.76±12.77 years old (ranging from 6-65 years). There were 60 (71.40%) male and 24 (28.60%) female patients. Among 84 patients (168 eyes), there were 147 (87.5%) uveitic eyes with bilateral uveitis in 63 patients (75%) and unilateral in 21 patients (25%). The IOP was 18.29±6.86 mmHg (ranging from 9-55 mmHg).The IOP was found high ({u2265}21 mmHg) in 35 patients (44 eyes). The prevalence of elevated IOP was 41.7% in uveitic patients 29.93% of uveitic eyes
