Abstract The main goal of this research is to study the effect of the horizontal flexural reinforcement, and the use of vertical stirrups as punching shear reinforcement on the punching shear behavior of RC flat slabs. In order to study these effects, six half scale models were fabricated and tested at the concrete laboratory of Faculty of engineering Cairo university. The specimens were divided into two groups; group one where the main parameter was changing the percentage of flexural reinforcement, while in group two it was changing the concentration of the punching stirrups. Moreover, to enhance the study, the six models were simulated using the non-linear finite element program ANSYS which allows for the analysis of the specimens in more details. The results showed that increasing the ratio of the flexural reinforcement increases the punching capacity significantly. Also, using stirrups as punching reinforcement increases the punching capacity, especially, when small spacing is used |
