Abstract

The study aimed to assess the correlation between the environmental risk factors and typhoid disease among children and their care givers, Alqalioubiya governorate. A descriptive correlation research design was utilized. Setting; the study was conducted in 4 villages at Alqalioubiya governorate. A simple random sample of 313 care givers was selected. Two tools were used; 1st tool a structured interviewing questionnaire includes 2 parts demographic data and knowledge of care givers about risk factors of typhoid disease 2nd tool an observational checklist for the home environment. Reveals that 47.9% of care givers were aged 20 to less than 30 years old with mean ±SD=29.76±7.36. All care givers have governmental water while 46%found it unsafe for use. One fifth kept water tanks in bathrooms, moreover; 32% kept tanks unclean. All care givers have used trenches as sewage disposal system. There were a highly statistical significant correlation between the care givers’ job and the previous family history of typhoid (p=0.004). There were a highly statistical significant negative correlation found between total typhoid knowledge and the family previous history toward typhoid (p=0.000). Study concluded that risk of typhoid transmission not only affected by sanitation of the environment but also the practices within it. Recommendation: ensure food, water, proper hygienic measures (especially hand washing after toilet use and before eating) and insects control, safe water supply and further researches to assess typhoid risk factors and prevent its outbreak
