Abstract

Referable to the limited response of the current available cancer treatment modalities, an urgent need is required for searching for new effective cancer fighting treatments. The present work investigates the efficiency of intratumoral injection of pseudomonas aeruginosa bacteria combined with a local tumor exposure to extremely low frequency square pulsed magnetic field (ELF SPMF) in the mouse ehrlich solid tumor. 64 ehrlich ascites tumor implanted female albino BALB/C mice were equally split up into 4 groups. Group1 (GP1) was the positive control group. Group2 (GP2) received a single intratumoral injection of live P. aeruginosa bacterial colonies (0.1 ml volume, 1.5{u00D7}108 CFU/ml). Group3 (GP3) received tumor local exposure to ELF SPMF (0.7 Hz, 0.88±0.02 mT, 1h). Group4 (GP4) was treated with the same volume of P. aeruginosa intratumoral injection followed by tumor local exposure to the same ELF SPMF, 2h after bacterial injection. Treatment began on day13 post tumor implantation for mice groups 2, 3, and 4. Each of the tumor volume characteristics and the general health status of all the experimental mice groups have been described. Five days post-treatment, treatment monitoring was also evaluated using ultrastructural examination, tumor flow cytometric analysis in addition to the measurement of tumor dielectric properties. Tumor cell apoptosis was obvious in Gp2 and GP4, but, with higher severity and percentages in GP2
