Abstract

Intraoperative ultrasound is an important diagnostic and staging tool for staging GIT cancer. Despite the state-of-the-art preoperative staging investigations, still intraoperative ultrasound is ultimately valuable. Liver is the main site for GIT cancer metastasis specially colorectal and pancreatic cancer. Intraoperative ultrasound can detect more lesions in liver up to 10% than ordinary preoperative investigations like CT scan and MRI. Intraoperative ultrasound can change the surgical strategy up to 30% in most studies
