Abstract

This study explores how the use of sensationalism in programs on Arab satellite television has affected and perhaps changed the attitudes as well as behavior of the Egyptian youth. Sensationalism3 as a concept in mass media, is a type of editorial bias in mass media in which events and topics in news stories and pieces are overhyped to present biased impressions on events, which may cause a manipulation to the truth of a story. Also, why programs with sensationalistic topics are of interest to the Egyptian youth and what tools do the producers of these programs use whether in terms of graphics, reports, sound effects and music as well as inserts of videos and scenes and even the physical appearance of presenters to attract more viewers to these programs. Although programs using sensationalism are attractive not only to youth viewers, yet they have developed low memory to these programs and this study will be identifying these obstacles. On the other hand, since that mean of media use among youth has changed today, this study introduces how the use of new technology has played a vital role in both the increase of viewership to these programs as well as the spread of these sensationalistic topics discussed in these programs using sensationalism
