Abstract

This study aims to compare the effects of topical rimexolone versus dexamethasone versus fluorometholone on the IOP (intraocular pressure) in children less than 13 years of age undergoing a symmetrical bilateral strabismus surgery. 40 patients (80 eyes) who underwent bilateral recession surgery were divided into two equal groups. group A: included 20 children (40 eyes), in which one eye was randomized to receive topical 1% rimexolone, whereas the fellow eye received topical 0.1% Dexamethasone. group B: included 20 children (40 eyes) in which one eye was randomized to receive topical 1% Rimexolone, whereas the fellow eye received topical 0.1% fluorometholone. Moxifloxacin hydrochloride ophthalmic solution 0.5% was given bilaterally in all patients. All eye drops were given four times per day for 2 weeks. Pre operative and post operative IOP values on weeks 1,2,3,4 and 6 were taken using the tono pen AVIA®. The ocular-hypertensive responses of both groups were categorized into three levels of severity; high, intermediate and low according to the armaly and becker classification (1; 2) that is applied to adults. The peak IOP and maximal change of IOP from baseline caused by the topical corticosteroids were measured. Peak IOP was reached after 2 weeks of treatment in the two groups, after which the treatment was stopped, and the IOP returned to near pre operative values over the consecutive 4 weeks
