Abstract

Background: The nursing profession is currently facing many challenges, so nurses in daily practice are responsible for adhering to the professional ethical practice standard. Aim: The present study aimed to determine nurses’ perceptions regarding legal aspects liabilities at Port Said General Hospitals. Design: A descriptive research design was used. Setting: This study was conducted at A-Salam Hospital, El-Zohour Hospital, and Al-Hayah Hospital, all affiliated with Universal Health Insurance in the Port Said governorate. Subjects: A sample with a total number of 173 nurses was selected by using a simple random sampling technique. Tools: Personal and job characteristics of the participants and perceptions about legal liability questionnaire sheet were used. Results: Almost two-thirds of nurses (63.0% and 62.5%, respectively) have a high perception of malpractice and battery. In terms of total legal aspects liabilities, 46.8% of the studied staff nurses had a moderate perception, 27.7% had a low perception, while, slightly more than one-quarter had a high perception. Also, personal and job characteristics have no statistically significant relationship with overall nurses’ perceptions of legal aspects’ liabilities. Conclusion: less than half of the studied nurses had moderate perceptions of total legal aspects liabilities, one-quarter had high perceptions, and slightly more than one-quarter had low perceptions. Recommendations: Train nurses on medical ”law” and its relevant matters to enhance safe nursing practice.
