Abstract Schiff base compounds have received considerable attention in the last decade which plays a central role as chelating agents for a large numbers of metal ions, as they form a stable six-membered ring after complexation with a metal ion. The present study involves preparation of a novel series of transition metal complexes of Cu(II), Co(II), Ni(II), Mn(II) and Cd(II) acetate were synthesized from Schiff bases of 1-((2-Hydroxyphenyl)iminomethyl)naphthalene-2-ol (H2L) 4-((Z)-(4-Nitrophenylimino)methyl)benzene-1,3-diol Schiff bases and their metal complexes have been synthesized and characterized by elemental analysis, mass spectroscopy, X-ray, IR, 1H NMR, electronic spectra, molar conductance magnetic susceptibility and thermogravimetric studies. Chapter 1, contains a literature survey includes the importance and structural chemistry of Schiff base compounds and their metal complexes. Chapter 2, involves materials used and the preparation of Schiff bases of 1-((2-Hydroxyphenyl)iminomethyl)naphthalene-2-ol (H2L) 4-((Z)-(4-Nitrophenylimino)methyl)benzene-1,3-diol as well as their complexes of Cu(II), Co(II), Ni(II), Mn(II) and Cd(II) acetate in addition to analytical techniques. Chapters 3, and 4 include on the results and discussion abstracted from this study. |
