Abstract

The west Esh El Mellaha area (about 1575 km²) is located in the southeastern part of the western margin of the Gulf of Suez. The integration between surface and subsurface mapping of this area was not done yet. Therefore, the main objective of this thesis is the construction of the structural architecture and evolution of the west Esh El Mellaha area through the integration between detailed surface and subsurface mapping. To achieve the objective of this thesis, we have gone through the following methodology; analysis of satellite images (Scales 1: 50,000 and 1: 100,000), detailed field work and surface mapping, potential data interpretation, 2D seismic interpretation and structural seismic restoration. Pre-field work was done through searching for all previous literatures. Regional mapping is the only previous work done on this area. So we have looked forward to study the area in surface and subsurface perspectives and integrate the outcomes to produce a robust structural and evolutionary models for the area. The study area represents a major part of the so-called Esh El Mellaha rift block which lies within the southern dip province of the Gulf of Suez rift. It represents a 63 km long by 25 km wide marginal half graben (Tarboul half graben). This marginal half garben is delimited from the west by the Red Sea Hills and from the east by Esh El Mellaha range. The Red Sea Hills and Esh El Mellaha range are composed of Precambrian igneous and metamorphic rocks covered by a sedimentary sequence range in age from Paleozoic to Recent. The Tarboul half graben is bounded from the west by the NW-SE oriented Gulf of Suez rift boundary fault (RBF) which represents the down dip border fault of this half graben. It is a segmented normal fault with a throw up to 2.7 km
